What would Obama do?

The acclaimed film and Broadway actress Tovah Feldshuh recently “swore” to the New York Times that she senses “two angels” perched every moment on her shoulder. The first is her late father, Sidney. And the second? “It’s my president, Barack Obama,” she sighed. “Rather than ask myself, ’what would Jesus do?’ I always ask myself, ‘how would Barack respond?’ He doesn’t make enemies, and he doesn’t assume enmity.” Ms. Feldshuh clearly views the president as more than a political leader; he’s also a moral and behavioral guide, and an angelic presence in her life. Such cult-like Obama worship actually constitutes a mixed blessing for the president. He may benefit temporarily from his followers’ Messianic fervor but when the unfolding history of his administration shows him—inevitably—as merely human, their disillusionment could be painful, harsh and even heart-breaking.
